The Dougherty Foundation
The Dougherty Foundation was established in 1954 by M.J.G. Dougherty and his wife, Bess. Linda Czarencki, Executive Director of the Dougherty Foundation says, “The Dougherty’s estate has made millions of dollars of need and achievement-based scholarships and loans available to Arizona students.” Prior to moving to the Arizona territory in 1909, Mr. Dougherty began his career as a teacher in Wisconsin. It was their interest in children and education that led to the formation of their foundation.
She further says, “Because of the Dougherty’s belief in providing an education to struggling students, the Foundation has awarded over one million dollars in scholarships to the ACE (Achieving a College Education) programs at South Mountain and Glendale Community Colleges over the past twenty years.”
