Virginia G. Piper Charitable Trust
Virginia G. Piper Charitable Trust is dedicated to honoring Virginia Galvin Piper’s philanthropic commitment to changing lives and strengthening community in Maricopa County. Marilee Dal Pra, Program Director at Piper Trust says, “By investing in nonprofits and encouraging strategic planning for the future, the Piper Trust strives to make Maricopa County a stronger, more nurturing and vibrant community.” The Piper Trust began making grants in 2000 following Mrs. Piper’s death in 1999.
Virginia G. Piper Charitable Trust is the legacy of Virginia Galvin Piper, whose philanthropy and vision shaped the spirit and mission of the Trust. A longtime Valley resident, Mrs. Piper’s philanthropic endeavors began under the tutelage of her first husband, Motorola founder Paul Galvin, and continued as she supported a variety of nonprofit organizations focusing on healthcare and medical research, children, older adults, arts and culture, education and religious organizations. The Piper Trust still focuses on these same six areas.
Ms. Dal Pra continues, “The Maricopa Community Colleges have a singular mission to build skills for academic success and expand access to higher education. Virginia G. Piper Charitable Trust applauds the efforts of the Maricopa Community Colleges and their role in bringing post-secondary education to greater numbers of deserving students who might not otherwise have these opportunities.”
