Phil Gordon was elected Mayor on Sept. 9, 2003 and was re-elected in September 2007. During Gordon’s tenure, Phoenix was dubbed “A 21stCenturyCity” in 2008 and, in 2009 was named, for the fifth time, an “AllAmericaCity. “

Mayor Gordon attended Phoenix College, the oldest of the Maricopa Community Colleges and then attended the University of Arizona, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in education. He is a cum laude graduate of Arizona State University School of Law.  Mayor Gordon has earned many honors both as a private citizen and as elected public official, but two in particular highlight his accomplishments in each arena: (1) in 2008, he was named the Best Mayor in North America by a London based international think tank; and (2) in recognition of his twenty years of dedicated service benefitting the public/private sectors, he was inducted into the Phoenix College Hall of Fame in November of 2008.

Over 500 people attended this tribute dinner on April 7, 2010.  The event raised close to $200,000 in scholarship funds to support the Maricopa ACE – Achieving a College Education – Programs, Chicanos Por La Causa (CPLC) matching scholarship fund and the general scholarship fund.
