Day of Giving to Raise $100,000 to Support Students

The Maricopa County Community Colleges District (MCCCD) is hosting Be a Student’s Hero (#IAmAHero) day of giving on March 31, 2022. Held in partnership with the Maricopa Community Colleges Foundation (MCCF) and 10 colleges, this specified day was created to share student stories, highlight college programs, increase awareness, and raise money to support students.
All funds raised through this campaign go directly to supporting students where they need help most including: school-related fees such as tuition, textbooks and internet access, to basic living expenses, support for campus food pantries, student emergency funds and more.
“In our 2020-2021 school year, we saw a dramatic 957% increase in student requests for emergency assistance,” said Brian F. Spicker, MCCF President and CEO. “This unprecedented need inspired us to create the first Be A Student’s Hero Day in 2021. This year, we are aiming to raise $100,000 through this campaign. With these funds we can potentially help hundreds more students with access to higher education and living expenses, because it’s hard to worry about studying when you are struggling to keep food on the table for yourself or your family.”
To ease fundraising efforts, MCCF has set up a donation website specifically for Be a Student’s Hero day of giving: mcccdf.org/be-a-student-hero. If they so choose, donors can select to support all or one of the 10 Maricopa Community Colleges.
Be a Student’s Hero day of giving is made possible with the support of community sponsors, including media sponsor The Arizona Republic | azcentral.com as well as Arizona Federal Credit Union, Arizona State University, Northern Trust, Paloma Ready Mix and Salt River Project.
