“This internship has shown me the path I would need to take.”

The City of Scottsdale has partnered with Scottsdale Community College (SCC)  and the Maricopa Community Colleges Foundation, to provide SCC students with IT internships to gain real world experience in the areas of Web Design/Development, and Desktop Support/Help Desk. "This internship in the IT Department has shown me the path I would need to take to eventually become a Network Engineer, whether it is for City of Scottsdale or another company/entity," said Andrew L., one of the student interns. When asked how his education prepared him for the internship, he replied, "classroom learning has had an amazing impact as well. Before applying and accepting this internship, I had taken a PC repair class (A+ 1102) that actually gave me a good idea of what this role would be like, so when I was eventually on-site working, it was not far off at all from what I expected."

"I am writing to say thank you for awarding me the State Farm Insurance Cyber/AI Scholarship. This scholarship is deeply appreciated and will help me in my educational journey. I am a student at Estrella Mountain Community College obtaining an AAS in Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning. I am studying AI & ML to complement my educational background spanning pre-law and technology. I aspire to become a technology lawyer contributing to the legal and regulatory landscape surrounding emerging technologies like AI, hopefully serving as an informed counsel on emerging tech-law issues. As a first-generation college student from a low-income background, this scholarship helps finance my educational goals. This scholarship helps me pursue a passion of mine. As a low-income student, money has always been an issue and as a current junior in high school, affording college has always been in the back of my mind. I am one of the very few members of my family that have been allowed to attend college and I strive to make my parents proud. They immigrated from Mexico to build a better life for me, so I am working hard to make all of their dedication and sacrifices worth the hardships they endured. Something that I am currently considering is majoring in cybersecurity because the idea of being able to understand a concept so foreign to me is extremely fascinating. "Thank you so much for your kind award to me. This is going to be so helpful for me to buy the textbooks I need for class along with my scientific calculator for math. Thanks to people like you students like me can go to school and feel less stressed about how to pay for school. I am a first-generation college student. Both my parents only completed the 8th grade, so the fact that I get to go to college, is a really big deal. My major is in Business Management and I hope to one day run my own business! I have two younger sisters who have graduated high school but did not go to college because they think it's unachievable for us and our family. I hope that seeing me go to college will hope motivate them as well. I hope to continue getting straight A's this semester to boost my GPA closer to 4.0 right now I am at 3.67 GPA super close! “Knowing that you support my dream means so much to me,” said Kristell, a student at Chandler-Gilbert Community College and a participant in the ACE Program while in high school, which gave her a head start to higher education. “This scholarship makes it easier, because I will not have to worry about needing to make as much money to pay off the student loans and I am able to pay for Fall 2022 tuition.” In addition to school, Kristell spends her time volunteering at organizations such as Guthrie and student teaching, in order to gain more experience and hands-on learning.“Thank you so much for this scholarship, and most importantly, thank you for believing in me,” she said.
